1.3 Cultural Precedent

Through history, “bathing” has been intertwined with religious beliefs, spiritual and physical healing, and the wellbeing. From the pools in Jerusalem, to the Japanese baths, all carry a deep meaning that goes beyond pulchritude.
Presentation:
Power point slide presentation, that may include 7 to 10 slides, from which one will show drawings and or sketches, floor plans, etc. and the other will be photos. (Please download all PP files in a laptop in advance, so we could do the presentations faster). Presentations must include cultural precedents of bathing, massaging, body healing, and cultural traditions; drawings, images and notes should be clearly composed.

Work will be done in teams of two,

Healing Pools in Jerusalem, e.g.: Bethesda and Siloam.
Simbolism in Baptism and inmersion pools: Mikveh, baptismal piles, The Ganges River.
The Japanese Bath House
Turkish Baths
Arab Baths, e.g. Alhambra, Granada.
Roman Baths, and Termas e.g.: Caracalla, Dioclesiano, (explain technology, e.g. water & steam).
Bath (England).
Aztec “Temazcal” (steam bath).
Nordic Bath the Finnish Sauna.
